“Papa Joe” Speaks (from Opus 1964)

While working to repair the badly warped Opus ’64 “highlights” LP, I stumbled on the following brief recording of Dad’s remarks to the audience. He’s out of breath, having just conducted the band in the conclusion of Rossini’s William Tell overture (aka The Lone Ranger Rides Again). That, and his pack-a-day habit, unfortunately.

I didn’t know until recently that this brief recording existed. It’s all the audio we have left to remember “Papa Joe” voice and his role in our Golden Age at SAHS.
