“REDRUM”: “Billy, Do You Wanna Play a Game?”

The rack set up for this patch.

The recent passing of Manuel Noriega got me to thinking how he was ultimately driven from his sanctuary into the waiting arms of the US military. As I recall, the PsyOps guys bombarded him with loud music until he broke.

Imagine strapping down Mullah Omar and making him listen to this on an endless loop! Who needs water and a pillowcase?!

This is a Combinator, housing a Redrum drum computer and associated utilities. The Redrum, free-running from its sequencer, is fed to a Pulveriser for munging, and from there to an M-Class EQ and Chorus/Flanger. Pulsar LFOs are used to modulate the three tom-tom voices, the EQ’s two programmable frequency/Q parameters, and the Pulveriser’s behavior. Fun stuff, if you’re into ostinatos (and I am). Interesting side note: modulating the Pulveriser acts much like a formant filter. You can almost hear vowel sounds. (Or would that be bowel sounds?)
