An oppressively hot July day. Not a cloud in the sky. Even the birds have taken cover. In the distance, some masochist is mowing his lawn. The air is buzzing with the sounds of the neighborhood air conditioners and window fans. And, of course, the crickets are going nuts. Nothing for it but to retreat to the bedroom, fire up the A/C, and doze for a while. At least until the sun nears the horizon.
A nod to Dominic Frontiere’s score for the first season of The Outer Limits (the original, not the reprise). Lots of augmented fourths and minor sevenths, especially in the pedal tones in the lower virtual strings. These are the main source of variation, as I juxtapose them with the high-pitched flute-like figure.
