I’ve got a soft spot in my head for minimalist music. (Gee, can ya tell?)
Ok, the first piece is 9.6 minutes of basically the same seven-note sequence played back and forth, but there are some neat wrinkles. I’ve set the Q119 to produce up to eight (I set it for seven) separate stages of three control voltages.
[The second piece uses major seconds for the bottom row of pitches, along with a “diminished triad” setting in the Q171 quantizer bank.]
The top bank, after quantization, feeds three VCOs, two of which go to the ring mod. The bottom bank is mixed with a triangle wave (just make it a little more “random”), then goes to the Q171 quantizer bank, then to three VCOs. This gives me two “melodic” lines (you may differ in the assessment) to supply to the first VCA.
The middle bank produces amplitude voltages to the VCA to give a sense of rhythm to the proceedings.
Not shown: gate paths, reverb, the VCF (which applies an envelope to frequency and resonance inputs), the VCF mixer, and the VCAs for output.
Over the course of the piece, I make real-time adjustments to the two pitch sequences and/or amplitude voltages, trying to stay ahead of the flashing LEDs.
