First effort: Csound to MIDI to Audio

Here’s a very brief, monophonic snippet of Philip Glass’s seminal 1968 composition, Two Pages. I used the free Csound application and a slew of eighth-notes (7,142 of ’em) to play the full twenty-minute piece. Then I added four parallel NOTEON events to get the chords of stacked fifths (got that from Bartok!). From there to Reason software, three virtual instruments, reverb, e.g., and then to MP3.

[I believe this brief one-minute snippet, monophonic and with its low bit rate, qualifies under “fair use.” Sure hope so!]

Believe it or not, this is a fun piece to listen to (if you like the minimalist stuff, that is). If you listen attentively, you can hear the patterns change (expanding and contracting) over time. This one-minute excerpt includes only the first two patterns of many.

If you look under the My Music Stuff choice under the menu, you’ll see a page with a more-detailed explanation.
